The first racing event the new RX-7 participated in was on the flat salts in Bonneville. Racing Beat has been a long time Mazda racer, they have previously broken the speed record in an RX-3 with 160.393mph for the G-Production class. The Bonneville RX-7 was outfitted with a Bridge Ported 13B plus 58DSF Weber carburetors, Hall-effect electronic ignition mounted on the eccentric shaft. The car was able to hit 10,000rpm and that was enough to hit 183.904mph on the flats.

I wonder how the people who built this car back in 1978 would feel about the Pica Motors Import RX7 going well over 200 mph.

wow....speechless..
ReplyDeleteThe same company that built this car also built a FC 1986 RX7 land speed car that went 238.4 MPH and that record still stands today.
ReplyDeleteSweet info. Thanks!
